Rotonda West is a unique community in South West Florida. The circular shape of the community was the idea of Charles Prynne Martin and modeled after the concept of Paris and Washington D.C. He convinced Joe Klein, the CEO of Cavanaugh Leasing Corporation to go with a circular development. They felt more people would come if it was round versus a square community. It was ahead of its time with fresh water canals branching out to the river which went around the outer circle and then lead out to the Gulf of Mexico. One of the most famous investors was Ed McMahon, Johnny Carson’s sidekick on “The Tonight Show.” He bought a home on the golf course in the Oakland Hills subdivision of Rotonda West, and promoted the community on television.
